Maybe the Atlantic District meant margins in a different sense. Not sure. Christ ministered to tax collectors, prostitutes, and lepers, who were at the margins of or outside mainstream society. Maybe the District sees its mission as a modern parallel.
That’s not unique enough to warrant a resolution though. It’s literally the core mission of every district and church. I think my reading is correct, but it shows how badly it was written if your meaning was what was intended.
The desire to toot their own horn is amusing because it reflects the culture of the region they serve. The worse thing about this drival about margins is it reflects the obsessions of the intersectional progressive left. We shouldn't have even the appearance of evil. This should be voted down for it's progressive "cooties", at the very least.
This is a weird overture. Why would a district seek the affirmation of the Synod in the first place? And why not the other 34 districts of the Synod, all of whom have unique challenges and opportunities? This one goes on the Omnibus.
🎯 "... the Atlantic District is at the center, not at the margins. The 18 million people within its 20,000 square miles include some of the most religiously, ethnically, linguistically, and economically consequential populations in the world. Its ministry, properly understood, is not a witness from the periphery but a witness at the geographic node where the United States is presently being remade and where filthy lucre gushes out with the force of ten thousand Yellowstone geysers."
What is the value of growth if the synod does not adhere to classical Lutheran doctrines? There are plenty of churches out there for those who prefer expansive (re)intepretations of God's word.
I would like to think that the "churches out there for those who prefer expansive (re)intepretations of God's word" are not LCMS ones. Unfortunately, those kinds of churches are non-denominational in many parts of the Midwest: Heavy on small groups doing community service projects, but light regarding everything else.
Right, and emulating them would defeat the purpose of our synod and of Lutheranism. I believe that we should fulfill our mission of taking God's word with full seriousness and let the Lord decide how many people fill the pews. It appears that we agree on that.

Does any of this matter while LCMS congregations in that district continue to shrink and close?
How can the LCMS remain true to confessional Lutheran theology and also grow in the "woke" Left coastal areas?

No value. My point exactly.

Pride disguised as humility
