The "Father of Modern Conservatism" stage-managed Conservatism's domestic eclipse and, inadvertently, fathered the current populist revolt that wants an end to his starched irrelevance.
Absolutely spot on analysis. When I was in High School I was a huge Buckley National review fan. Now at age 66 I can look back and see how much he damaged the right and contributed to the hot mess we are in today. He was quite likely controlled opposition.
Dumping Mark Steyn and John Derbyshire were the straws that broke the camel's back for me. Mark Krikorian's anti-illegal immigration stance was (is?) given some exposure, but much of NR has migrated to The Dispatch, as near as I can tell. I still check in on whatever Charlie Cooke has to say, though.
Excellent timing on this post. As they say, Conservatives couldn't even conserve the women's bathroom. May the term and movement rest in peace, sooner than later.

Thank you, Greg. I was very enamored as well until I started unpacking the record of where our country is.

I’m impressed with this. Holy smokes. I hope that Pat Buchanan is feeling vindicated. I hope that Conservative, Inc burns to the ground.
