Lutheran Institute of Theology Aims to Strengthen Congregations and Laity
A new digital learning platform launches to equip and fortify Lutherans with a deeper appreciation of their theological heritage.
The Lutheran Church has long been known for its rich theological heritage, yet in today’s digital world, access to high-quality, confessional Lutheran education is often limited. Other denominations have excelled in this area, creating accessible and well-produced theological resources, while we as Lutherans have often lagged behind. It’s time for us to put our best foot forward—and that’s exactly what we are doing with the launch of the Lutheran Institute of Theology (LIT). This is an unprecedented venture within the LCMS, designed to deliver faithful teaching through excellence in both content and presentation. Truth and beauty belong together, and we are committed to producing not only robust theological instruction but also a beautifully crafted learning experience that reflects the depth and richness of our confessional heritage.
LIT is not a seminary, nor is it a program for training pastors. Instead, it is designed to equip congregations and laity with in-depth courses that strengthen faith and understanding. The anchor of LIT is high-quality video lectures, featuring ~eight structured sessions, each ~30 minutes long, taught by leading Lutheran scholars and pastors. These courses will be accompanied by supporting resources—quizzes, discussion questions, and study guides—providing churches and individuals with the tools they need to not only learn but internalize and apply what they are taught. With LIT, we are packaging truth in beauty, making deep Lutheran theology engaging and accessible for all.

Help Us Build the Future of Lutheran Education
This announcement is just the beginning. To fully realize the vision of LIT, we are calling on those who share our passion for preserving and proclaiming Lutheran theology to support our efforts. Our fundraiser will enable us to expand our course offerings, enhance production quality, produce unprecedented media content for growth and education, and bring in exceptional teachers to ensure that LIT serves the Church with excellence. We have currently raised $140,000 and are looking to raise $80,000 more to reach our goal.
By supporting LIT, you are investing in a future where confessional Lutheran teaching is widely available, strengthening congregations and individuals for generations to come.
